Nottingham is 120 miles north of London and is one of the most popular parts of the Midlands. This is where the legend of Robin Hood originated and 'Major Oak' is an 800-year-old tree in the centre of Sherwood Forest. Robin Hood is said to have frequently met Maid Marion here. Unfortunately the forest has been neglected somewhat and what was once 40 000 hectares has now been reduced to 182.

If you want some insight into British law and order, the Galleries of Justice are very informative and entertaining. Tickets cost just
a few pounds and the interactive exhibition amuses children in a way they won't realise they are being educated at the same time.
Nottingham Castle is a mansion that was built in 1674. The original castle however was demolished after the Civil War, so even
though this is still called Nottingham Castle, it's really just a big historical house.
The man-made Caves of Nottingham are worth a look. There are caves dating from medieval times to a WWII air-raid shelter.
Pub tours are popular. The pubs are decorated with relics from hundreds of years ago like a cursed galleon above one bar that has been
there for 200 years. Legend has it that if you touch the galleon you will be dead in 28 days. Be careful! Pub Tours are very
cheap and include many nooks and crannies, stories about Midlands life many years ago, and spooky occurrences that have been
witnessed through the centuries. If you believe what they say, the pubs are inundated with ghosts of dead Victorians who
cause a little mischief, but nothing serious.
Apart from the history, Nottingham is vibrant, dynamic, bustling city and well worth a couple of days to explore.
