"England swings like a pendulum do
Bobbies on bicycles two by two
Westminster Abbey, the Tower of Big Ben
The rosy red cheeks of the little children"

- Simple, cute lyrics from the late Roger Miller, but somehow it sums up London. London does swing and there are friendly Bobbies - and red buses and black cabs. Yes, there's the Abbey and Big Ben - and the Tower, the Palace, the Tate Gallery, St Paul's, the Royal Parks, the Old Bailey and all the wonderful sights that have remained unchanged for centuries. And, of course, the climate guarantees the odd child with rosy, red cheeks. For a first-time visitor all this is worth discovering. For the traveller visiting again it's part of the reassuring charm. And, for all visitors London is ever-changing with its new hi-tech exhibits, its theatre, its shopping, its restaurants and the nightlife.

One way of getting a quick orientation and a cursory view of the major sites is to take one of the double-decker bus tours, but London is a great walking city and what you save on the bus ticket will buy you a pub lunch. The following guide to the main attractions is primarily for visitors staying only a few days or a week before they go to explore other parts of the UK. It's designed so all the major sites can be seen, without too much of a rush. Visitors who decide to stay longer than a few days will know by then how to discover their own rewards. We at Travel Match are more than happy to create personal itineraries to suit your areas of interest and vacation time frame.
