Notre Dame
This is a magnificent Gothic cathedral and no photos do it justice. It was built between 1163 and 1345 and can hold 6,000 people. Ornate flying buttresses, gargoyles, rose windows and an amazing atmosphere and while it looks symmetrical, it's far from it with little quirks of architecture to avoid monotony. Check out the sculpture of John the Baptist at the entrance. He's the one holding his head on a platter. Look to the skies to see kestrels that nest in the towers.

Saint Chapelle
Also on the Ile de la Cité, Saint Chapelle is a much smaller delight. Built in the 13th century to house Jesus' Crown of Thorns, it is illuminated by magnificent stained glass.

La Madeleine
The Eglise de la Madeleine is built in the style of a Greek temple and is surrounded by 52 Corinthian columns (just north of the Place de la Concorde).

Basilique de Sacre Coeur
This landmark sits atop Montmartre Hill and gives spectacular views of the city from the dome.
