Paris > To see & do > Shopping

For clothes, fashion accessories, jewellery and general boutique shopping head to Montmartre, Marais, St Germain des Prés or the Triangle d'Or (the triangle points are basically Place de la Concorde, Arc de Triomphe and Place de l'Alma). This is also a great area for window-shopping (not to buy windows, but to watch elegant locals strut their stuff).

All prices in Paris are now in Euros (1 Euro equals roughly around 68 British pence @ 01 May 2004). Generally prices for clothes and other goods are excellent and much cheaper than London. So, if you are after that sexy little black suit or chic hat (black is back!), underwear (French lace - for the ladies (?) a must and great value) this is the place to shop. And, if you want to buy some really great (and inexpensive) original pencil sketches or watercolour paintings of Paris, you MUST spend some time on the Left Bank, where a multitude of talented "poverty stricken" (?) artists have escaped from their spartan garrets for the day to sell their work to supplement their university fees... or so they say...

Seriously, superb original work can be purchased (don't forget to bargain hard!) here for a fraction of what you would pay in a gallery, and what a conversation piece at your dinner parties back home, and, who knows, years later your kids could inherit some seriously valuable art!
