The Higlands of Scotland are arguably one of the most famous areas in the world, enshrined in legend and mystery, with legends such as Rob Roy, William Wallace (Braveheart) and of course Nessie - The most famous of legends - the Loch Ness monster..
As well as a superb holiday destination the Highlands are also home to over a quarter of a million people living in communities spread throughout the area, from the vibrant city of Inverness to remote crofting communities and sparsely populated islands.
What these communities do have in common and something that is particularly apparent to visitors is that they are all part of an area which is very culturally distinct - influenced by its often violent history, a strong cultural heritage, and bound together by Scotlands gaelic language.
The Highlands varied climate also has lead to a wide range of habitats, and the relatively sparse population makes this one of the most revered areas in Britain, if not Europe for wildlife.
