Gentle Journeys Garden Day Tours
Gentle Journeys was founded in London in 1991 with the aim of providing quality tailor-made tours in Britain and Ireland for affinity and special
interest groups, a service which is a very important element of Gentle Journeys. Then, in 1995, Garden Days were added to the portfolio
and, from that, a successful series of Garden Tours evolved.
Based in the ancient town of Sherborne set in the heart of the Dorset countryside and only a short train journey from London, Gentle Journeys
is within easy reach of some of England's most wonderful gardens and historic houses many of which are included in its tour itineraries.
Co founder and co-owner Susan, with her passion for history and extensive experience, is responsible for all tour planning. She started her
travel career in Wales far more years ago than she cares to remember before joining London-based Trafalgar Travel and Tours. In 1977 she
became a freelance British Tour guide and began escorting tours and special interest groups in Britain and Ireland for all the major companies.
In 1985, following her marriage, Susan went on to join Abercrombie & Kent in London prior to founding Gentle Journeys with Tony, her husband.
Tony is responsible for the sales and marketing of the company. Having gained immense experience in retail marketing before ultimately running
his own business, Tony was only introduced to the tourism business when he married Susan. However, having already travelled extensively in the
UK, he took to marketing Britain and Ireland the Gentle Journeys way like a duck to water and his endeavors have seen Gentle Journeys featured
in many newspapers and magazines worldwide including The New York Times and the Japanese edition of Elle Magazine.
The Team also proudly boasts an excellent group of knowledgeable and friendly guides many of whom have been with Gentle Journeys since it
began. Last but not least, Susan and Tony are helped in the office duties by two rescue dogs, Tipsy and Bollie!

Hotel Boat ( Canal - Narrowboat ) Holidays
Hotelboat holidays are also called many other names such as
English barge vacations, canal boats, narrow boats, barging
vacation, skippered canal tours, escorted canal vacations, canal
boat charter, canal and countryside tours - They all add
up to the same thing!
As Kenneth Grahame says in The Wind in the Willows,
" There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."
Derek and Emma Fearnley own and operate this multi award winning business, specialising in voyages of exploration into England's hidden
heritage of canals. An English barge vacation is a holiday for those who take pleasure in the quieter things in life: in the beauty of
ever-changing landscapes, in reflections on still water, in good food and the company of interesting, friendly people. Whether you are
travelling alone or with friends, from home or abroad, a hotel boat holiday offers the perfect way to relax and enjoy the idyllic
surroundings of England's waterways.
Derek and Emma have also just won two Gold Awards from the Heart of England Tourist Board as Hotel Boat Operator of the Year and a separate
award called The Green Award for Tourism.
The first award is self-explanatory, the second is for attention to many environmental aspects including the low impact our holidays have on
the places they visit, thereby not disturbing what you have come to see undisturbed! HotelBoat Holidays has also maintained their five star
rating after inspection by the English Tourism Council, however, they continue to emphasise, this does not infer that you have to change for
dinner or that they are stuffy and formal, it simply means that they are independently assessed as being very good as what they do!
Now offering a superb and wide variety of tours to suit every itinerary and every budget, it is important that you choose the cruise that best
suits you. Please contact us at the Great Britain & Ireland Travel Bureau to discuss all the options that would best suit your requirements.
Returning last year after a long absence was the River Avon
up to Stratford-upon-Avon, and a chance to visit the Royal Shakespeare
Theatre. With such a wide choice of cruises throughout the season,
and with central heating throughout the boats, both early and
late season bookings are extremely attractive and comfortable.
Hotelboat Holidays is a well established and superbly operated family business, with Emma as cook and hostess, plus a competent and cheerful
crew, all offering the helpful touch to make your holiday something special. The difficult decision however is which cruise to choose!
